Our fandom-obsessed staff shares all the sci-fi shows we can’t stop watching.

Here at the FAN EXPO HQ, our team is always nerding out over the world of fandom. On Team Picks, we share some of our favourite things we’ve been watching, reading and playing. This month, we’re looking at science fiction!

We asked the team to tell us which sci-fi shows they’re bingeing right now and why. Here are this month’s picks:

Name: Lizzie

Role: Operations Coordinator

Pick: Throughout quarantine I’ve been re-watching The Mandalorian for several reasons:

1. To find any Easter eggs I missed on the first go

2. Baby Yoda is the cuteness I need in my life right now

3. Is it just me, or is the Mando seriously attractive? (We could be great together; I just know it)

Name: Vivienne

Role: Project Coordinator/Administrator

Pick: Rick and Morty! It’s like if Back to the Future and Futurama had a baby, but with a splash of gore and dark humour. It’s smart, funny, weird, and deeply moving at times. Each 20-minute episode is packed with alien fighting action, geeky jokes, and a healthy dose of nihilism. Also, this is the best time to re-watch the previous seasons of Rick and Morty, since the second half of season four came out this month.

Name: James

Role: Director of Content

Pick: The Expanse: it’s slow to start, but not in a bad way. It takes its time with worldbuilding and developing the characters – but it then proceeds to grab you by the seat of your pants with amazing action sequences, including the most accurate depiction of maneuvering in space of any hard sci-fi show out there. You have no idea how much you need to see enemies that are basically ramshackle shipping containers covered in rail guns blown apart by more rail guns!! Check it out.

Name: Ansley

Role: Programming Coordinator

Pick: The Clone Wars. In preparation for the release of Season seven, a re-watch was in order! Star Wars is my happy place, so any time I can indulge, I will. I love spending more time in the world of the Old Republic, and the character exploration throughout the series is fantastic. Shout out to the amazing work Filoni and co have done with Darth Maul!

Name: Jay Ro

Role: Senior Operations Manager

Pick: Picard. I got into a TNG saga binge and started watching Star Trek: First Contact and Nemesis. I heard Picard picked up after Nemesis (which was the last TNG movie) so it was beyond nostalgic. It was super cool seeing Picard in his element again. Plus, we finally get to bid a proper farewell to a beloved character – I won’t say which one. It's also a great way to introduce a new story to the original TNG fans!
